To insure the highest quality products, Hornbaek Baltic uses state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment produced in Germany and the United States. All of the major pieces of equipment are less than five years old.
A critical component of any wood production is the proper drying of the raw materials. Hornbaek Baltic uses dry kilns manufactured by the German company Eisenmann, generally considered the best dry kilns made in Europe. Pine mouldings are dried to 8-12% while hardwoods are dried to 6-8% moisture content. An in-line moisture meter is used on every piece of wood after drying to insure that no piece above the specified moisture content is used in production.
The boiler and sawdust removal system are also critical to avoid work stoppage and insure that production targets are met. Hornbaek Baltic uses a Weiss boiler and Schuko sawdust removal and filtering system (both German made) to insure continuous production. The boiler is heated by clean burning wood chips and sawdust developed as by-products of the manufacturing process.
Hornbaek Baltic possesses two moulders produced by the German company Weinig, including the Hydromat 23 which produces the highest quality moulded profiles. The speed and high quality finish of the Weinig moulders allows Hornbaek Baltic to produce a wide variety of finished products and still meet production targets.
Two high capacity Western Pneumatics (USA) machines are used by Hornbaek Baltic for finger-jointing. The Company prefers this style of finger-jointer because of its advanced technology and also because it produces a finger-joint with a seam across the front surface which improves the appearance of the profile.
Hornbaek Baltic also uses a high speed two-step process in painting its profiles with a clear or white prime coat. An initial ultra-violet (UV) coat is applied which seals and protects the wood. After drying, the product is then put through a profile sander before a second coat of water-based paint is applied. This process produces a very high quality prime coat ready for the final painting application and eliminates problems of rough or raised grain found when water-based primers alone are applied. Profiles are generally primed on four sides.
Hornbaek Baltic is a waste-free manufacturing company as all by-products of production are used. In addition to using chips and sawdust to heat the dry kilns and manufacturing facilities, Hornbaek Baltic uses a German Ruf briquette press to manufacture clean burning fuel briquettes which are sold in Denmark and Sweden.
